Luther IRWIN, age 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Irwin of Indianapolis and a nephew of Mrs. WD Rinehart of this place has been reported missing in action. Young Irwin was aboard the United States Destroyer Ingraham which sank recently as a result of a collision in a fog in the Atlantic. The Ingraham was launched Feb 14, 1941 and commissioned july 17, 1941. The missing lad was one of a crew of 175 on the ship. He enlisted in the navy 11 years ago and had risen to the rank of 1st class gunner aboard the destroyer. He is one of 5 boys in his family. The surviving boys are: Lyman; Nolan and Earl of Indianapolis and Norman of Mt. Shasta, California. He had visited with his aunt here on numerous occasions. Word was first received here by Mrs. Rinehart Friday night as she was listening to radio war news and later more detailed announcements were received here from the boy's parents. The community extends its sympathy to the local relatives and also to the parents and immediate relatives of another who has no doubt sacrificed his life for our country.   ---kbz
